Judgment Card - Labyrinth Tarot

Novel Tarot: Judgment Card – Labyrinth Tarot

I love beautiful tarot and oracle cards, so for each chapter of each novel I write, I draw a card from one of my decks and read it intuitively. For this chapter, I drew Judgment Card – Labyrinth Tarot. See the bottom of the page for information about the novel.

No Hero (Chapter 12 ), The Lost Teachings of Dead Monks

What do we learn about Charlie in this chapter? I’ve drawn the Judgment card from Luis Royo’s The Labyrinth Tarot deck.

Typically this card reflects a resurrection or a rising again, but I’m reading this card intuitively as well. There is no rising again for Charlie. Instead, he’s being not lifted up but dragged center stage. The focus of the trumpet is not on the news but on blasting him. The lack of color in this card shows me just how Charlie has altered himself to fit into whatever his audience desires.

All his masks and self-presentation becomes clear in this chapter. He has fancied himself as a martyr, hero, good guy, and he encouraged others think of him that way because he can get by on his sunny personality and good looks. When the trumpet of judgment is pointed at him, all his masks are blasted away, and he is laid bare.

He is not the planner, caretaker, and brainy guy he’s pretended to be but instead cannot create a coherent plan and can only babble. He waffles on making decisions, taking charge, and in following through. He is weak and cowardly, feeding his own psychological need for martyrdom rather than being truly heroic. And all the women in his life know it now.
